Biography

Maria Kraus-Boelté brought the kindergarten philosophy of Friedrich Froebel to the United States, establishing a training school in New York City that prepared women to guide young children with play, song, and curiosity.

She nurtured generations of teachers, advocated for child-centered education, and left a lasting influence on the city schools, a contribution remembered by the community and honored at Woodlawn Cemetery.
