About BurialMap

BurialMap is a free, open-access memorial and cemetery directory. We believe everyone deserves to be remembered, and that burial records should be accessible to all—without paywalls, login walls, or subscriptions.

Our Mission

We're building the most comprehensive, freely accessible map of burial sites in the world. Whether you're researching family history, visiting a famous gravesite, or simply curious about the people who shaped our world, BurialMap helps you find where they rest and learn how they lived.

Our Data

BurialMap aggregates burial records from multiple open data sources, including:

  • Wikidata — Structured data about notable people, their burial locations, dates, and occupations
  • OpenStreetMap — Cemetery locations and boundaries from the world's largest open mapping project
  • Wikimedia Commons — Freely licensed photographs of graves, memorials, and cemeteries
  • Wikipedia — Biographical information for notable individuals

All data is used in compliance with the respective licenses (CC0, CC BY-SA, ODbL). Source attribution is provided on individual memorial and cemetery pages.

Coverage

BurialMap currently contains records for cemeteries across the United States and internationally, with biographical information for hundreds of thousands of individuals. We continuously enrich our dataset with new sources and improved data quality.
