Biography

Пётр Владимирович Голохвастов (1803–1887) was a prominent Russian censor and literary official who played a significant role in Russian intellectual life during the nineteenth century. His career spanned decades of service in the censorship apparatus, where he navigated the complex intersection of state control and cultural development during a transformative period in Russian history.

Golokvasov's work as a censor reflected the tensions of his era, as he engaged with some of the most important literary and intellectual figures of his time.
