Aaron A. Sargent

Biography

Aaron A. Sargent (1827–1887) carried California’s voice to the halls of Congress, serving in the U.S. Senate and championing causes such as the rights of women, who found in his 1878 resolution an early call for equal suffrage.

He is buried in Pioneer Cemetery, where his eloquent writing and passionate speeches linger in the memories of those who study the state’s history.
