Biography

Abebe Bikila sprinted into global renown when he won the Olympic marathon in 1960 barefoot, and he doubled that glory in 1964 with a world record while wearing shoes.

Though his life was cut short, his athletic achievements and dignified spirit remain celebrated in Ethiopia, where he is laid to rest.
