Biography
Abigail Hopper Gibbons devoted her life to abolitionism, prison reform, and the care of soldiers during the Civil War, founding the Women’s Prison Association and serving as a nurse and organizer in Washington.
Her compassionate activism continued in the decades that followed, and she was laid to rest at Green-Wood Cemetery with gratitude for her courageous service to the oppressed.
