Biography

Abraham Owen Smoot, born in 1815, emigrated with the early Latter-day Saint pioneers and became a guiding presence in Provo, serving as both civic leader and devoted church elder. He helped lay the groundwork for municipal governance and education, often encouraging families to pursue learning and community service.

When he died in 1895, many recalled his integrity, vision, and philanthropic spirit, particularly his support for Brigham Young Academy and the townspeople; he now rests in Provo City Cemetery as a steward of both faith and civic pride.
