1743–1825 (age 82)
Biography
Abraham Rees made significant contributions as a botanist and encyclopedist, most notably through his editorial work on Rees's Cyclopaedia, which offered a wide-ranging survey of knowledge in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He combined his scientific curiosity with a commitment to accessible education, drawing on his experience as a minister and scholar.
Rees devoted himself to collecting botanical specimens and writing thoughtful treatises that reflected both rigor and enthusiasm for the natural world. His intellectual leadership helped shape the period’s pursuit of scientific understanding while anchoring it in the moral and theological concerns of his Unitarian faith.
