Biography

Abram H. Bowman was a Louisville civic leader whose advocacy for parks and public facilities helped shape the city's early twentieth-century growth. He was among the leaders who supported the city's first airfield, which was later named Bowman Field in recognition of his efforts.

The airfield became one of the nation's oldest municipal airports, a living memorial to Bowman's enduring belief that civic amenities could foster both commerce and community pride, and his example encouraged others to invest in Louisville's future until his death in 1943.
