Biography

Adam Empie devoted his life to the Episcopal Church, serving parishes in Virginia and North Carolina before being elected the second Bishop of North Carolina, where he guided congregations and fostered education in the growing region.

He was admired for his warm pastoral care, attention to the needs of students and families, and his calm moral witness; those who knew him recall a man whose faithfulness provided stability for parishioners, and he now rests at Oakdale Cemetery.
