Biography
Adley H. Gladden, born in 1810, began his military career in the United States Army before becoming a brigadier general in the Confederate forces, noted for leading troops from South Carolina with discipline and resolve. His leadership at the Battle of Shiloh reflected the depth of his martial training and fierce loyalty to those he commanded.
Mortally wounded in 1862, he was laid to rest in Magnolia Cemetery, where visitors honor the courage he displayed in the war’s fiercest days. His memory remains part of the story of those who paid the ultimate price in a nation divided.
