Biography
Adolph E. Borie was a successful merchant and civic leader whose investment of energy into public affairs led to his brief but noteworthy service as Secretary of the Navy under President Grant in 1869.
He returned to Philadelphia business circles afterward, remembered for bringing a steady hand to both commerce and government, and now lies at Laurel Hill Cemetery among other patriots.
