Biography
Adolph Schoeninger, born in 1833, came to Chicago with a craftsman’s eye and a steadfast belief in quality. He built a reputation as a masterful manufacturer of furniture, toys, and office supplies, and his company’s wares became fixtures in homes and businesses throughout the growing Midwest.
He weathered the city’s great trials with resolve, rebuilding after calamities and remaining dedicated to the welfare of his employees. His quiet philanthropy and loyal support of local institutions earned him the affection of the community he served until his passing in 1900, and he now rests peacefully at Graceland Cemetery.
