Afanasiy Petrovitsj Sobolev

Biography

Afanasiy Petrovitsj Sobolev was born in 1919 and came of age during the Soviet period. His formative years coincided with the consolidation of Soviet power and the dramatic social transformations that reshaped Russian society throughout the mid-twentieth century.

Sobolev's life was cut short in 1958, yet his burial in Novodevichy Cemetery reflects the esteem in which he was held. Though his life was relatively brief, he lived through defining moments of Soviet history and contributed to the cultural or intellectual landscape of his time.
