Biography

Agustín de Betancourt was a distinguished Spanish architect and engineer who made significant contributions to Russian imperial architecture. Born in 1758, he brought European architectural expertise and innovation to the Russian Empire during the early 19th century.

Betancourt's architectural works and designs influenced the development of St. Petersburg's built environment. He lived until 1824 and was buried at Lazarev Cemetery, reflecting his integration into Russian society and his respected status among the cultural elite of the empire.
