Albert Keppel

1898–1917 (age 19)

Biography

Albert Keppel, born 1898, had an early fascination with flight that led him to join the Royal Flying Corps when the war demanded new kinds of courage. As an aircrew member he watched over the trenches from above, reporting enemy movements and sharing the rare, fleeting moments of calm with the men beside him.

He fell in 1917 and is interred at Aeroplane Cemetery, where the white crosses rise over the same fields where those early airmen learned the cost of the new war in the sky.
