Albert Szent-Györgyi, born in 1893, became a pioneering biochemist whose studies of muscle metabolism and the citric acid cycle culminated in the isolation of vitamin C, a breakthrough that earned him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1937.

He spent his later years in the United States sharing a love of collaborative research and generous mentorship, leaving a legacy of curiosity and compassion that is commemorated in Woods Hole Village Cemetery.
