Biography

Albert T. Morgan was born in 1842 and served as a Union officer before dedicating himself to Reconstruction work in the Deep South, focusing on education and civil rights for freed men and women. He helped organize schools, supported legislators of all stripes, and kept detailed notes that later helped tell the story of that turbulent era.

Later in life he settled in Indiana, where he shared those memories with a broader audience and continued to advocate for dignity and equal treatment even as the nation retreated into segregation. He now rests at Crown Hill Cemetery, a reminder of the courage of his Reconstruction efforts.
