Biography
Aleksandar Protogerov, born 1867, built his reputation as a capable officer during the Balkan Wars and later became a leading figure in the struggle for the freedom of Macedonia as an officer of IMRO. He balanced bold field command with political insight, striving to coordinate the activities of Bulgarians across the region while serving his nation with unflinching resolve.
Despite the turbulent years that followed, he remained a symbol of sacrifice for the Bulgarian cause in the Balkans until his death in 1928, and his grave in the Central Sofia Cemetery continues to draw those who honor the determination he embodied.
