Biography
Alexander Contee Magruder was born in the late eighteenth century and became part of the Washington, D.C. community during the early years of the American republic. He lived through a transformative period in the nation's history, witnessing the development of federal institutions and the growth of the capital city.
Magruder's seventy-four-year life was spent largely in the Washington area, where he was part of the civic community during the antebellum era. He was interred in Congressional Cemetery, a final resting place for many early American residents of the nation's capital.
