Biography
Alexander Crummell, born in 1819, rose from the challenges of a racially divided America to become an esteemed Episcopal priest, scholar, and advocate for African-American advancement. He traveled widely, championed dignified education, and called for pan-African solidarity while encouraging others to take pride in their heritage.
He died in 1898 and was buried at Cypress Hills Cemetery, where admirers continue to draw inspiration from his lifelong pursuit of justice, learning, and faith.
