Alexander Fraser Tytler
1747–1813 (age 66)
Biography
Alexander Fraser Tytler, Lord Woodhouselee, served the law with distinction, balancing the rigour of Scottish judgment with a human concern for fairness while also writing histories that sought to explain the arc of nations.
He is recalled at Greyfriars as a thinker whose probing mind was guided by a principle of temperate justice and whose words still invite reflection on the duties of public life.
