Biography

Alexander H. Shaw (1749–1807) was a Scottish bookseller whose profession placed him at the heart of intellectual and cultural life in Aberdeen during the late eighteenth century. As a purveyor of books, he served an important function in making knowledge and literature accessible to his community during an era of expanding literacy and intellectual curiosity.
