Biography

Alexander Maconochie (1787–1860) made his mark as a keen-eyed geographer whose surveys and maps aided the growing understanding of distant lands, and whose judgments were always tempered by a compassionate regard for the people who lived there.

He is remembered at St Lawrence Church, Morden, where his curiosity and kindness continue to inspire those who visit his resting place.
