Biography

Alexander McDonald represented Arkansas in the U.S. Senate during Reconstruction, helping to rebuild state institutions and supporting civil rights for newly freed Americans.

After leaving office he remained engaged in civic life, a steady presence in the Highland Cemetery community whose experiences during turbulent times taught him the value of steady citizenship.
