Biography
Alexander Shaler was a Union general whose leadership in the Civil War battles of Antietam and Gettysburg, later honored with the Medal of Honor, exemplified courage and steadfastness on the field.
After the war he continued to serve the public through veterans’ organizations and the National Guard, and he rests at Ridgefield Cemetery where many pay tribute to his lifelong commitment to duty.
