Biography

Alfred da Silva-Paranhos (1866–1890) was a diplomat who represented his nation in international affairs during the late nineteenth century. Though his diplomatic career was cut short by his early death at age twenty-four, he served during a crucial period of international relations and colonial expansion.

His brief but notable career in diplomacy was recognized through his interment in Père Lachaise Cemetery. Da Silva-Paranhos represented the educated elite of his generation, trained in the arts of statecraft and international negotiation.
