Biography

Alfred Ely served his country with calm determination, representing his constituents in Congress and attending to the needs of a nation divided by civil war; he carried himself with a gentle dignity that earned respect on both sides of the aisle.

In later years he found solace near his family in Mount Hope, and those who visit the hilltop memorial remember his faithful stewardship of civic duties.
