Biography

Alfred L. Elwyn trained as a physician and early in his career turned his energies toward improving the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, founding institutions and schools that met their needs with respect and compassion.

He also lent his voice to wider philanthropic causes throughout the city, encouraging neighbors to recognize the humanity of those who were often overlooked and helping to build the enduring institutions that still bear his name.
