Biography
Alphonsine de La Roche (1778–1852) was a French woman of the aristocratic class who lived through the Revolutionary and Napoleonic periods. She witnessed the dramatic social upheavals that reshaped French society and the nobility's place within it during her seventy-four years of life.
She was interred in Père Lachaise Cemetery, the prestigious burial ground that became the final resting place of many notable Parisians. Her long life connected the ancien régime world of her youth to the modern France of the mid-nineteenth century.
