Alvan E. Bovay

Biography

Alvan E. Bovay, born 1818, was a lawyer, educator, and a pioneering organizer in the formation of the Republican Party, helping to bring together citizens who sought a new political direction in the mid-19th century.

He later shared his legal knowledge in the classroom and in public service, always championing the principles of justice, education, and civic participation as a matter of moral responsibility.
