Anders Edvard Ramsay (1799–1877) served in the military with loyalty to Finland’s emerging sense of identity within the broader Russian realm. His leadership combined discipline with an awareness of the local officers’ needs, and he advocated for training that would serve both security and the well-being of soldiers.
He upheld the principles of duty and respect for the communities his regiment protected, and his faithful service is remembered at Hietaniemi cemetery.
