Anders Sandvig

1862–1950 (age 88)

Biography

Anders Sandvig trained as a dentist, yet he is remembered above all as a tireless collector and storyteller for Norway's rural past. Working initially in Lillehammer, he began to gather buildings, tools, and stories that spoke to the lives of ordinary people across the region.

He laid the foundations for what would become Maihaugen, an open-air museum that allows visitors to step back into traditional Norwegian life, a legacy born of his conviction that heritage deserves both care and celebration.
