André Lanskoy
1902–1976 (age 74)
Biography
André Lanskoy, born near Moscow in 1902, left Russia after the Revolution and became a vital presence among the School of Paris painters, his early work mixing lyricism with a fascination for colour that channeled both Russian tradition and Parisian modernism.
He later expanded into mosaic work, allowing his vivid palettes to illuminate devotional and public spaces while influencing younger artists, and he remained committed to the spontaneous gestures that made his canvases glow until his death in 1976.
