André Lhote, born in 1885, earned renown as a painter whose Cubist investigations balanced structure with lyrical light. He wrote and lectured about modern art with a clarity that drew artists toward a renewed understanding of composition.

For decades he taught in Montparnasse, guiding students who would go on to shape mid-century painting, and his grave there marks one of the movement’s lasting bridges between tradition and innovation.
