Andrew Picken

Biography

Andrew Picken (1815–1845) was a gifted illustrator whose delicate work helped enrich the illustrations accompanying travel narratives and literary publications of his day. His command of line and composition brought vivid character to landscapes and everyday scenes alike.

Though his life was brief, he cultivated a quiet reputation among fellow artists and patrons, and his name is remembered with respect at Highgate Cemetery, where he rests among other figures of the Victorian cultural world.
