Biography
Angelo Bruno rose to a position of authority in Philadelphia's Sicilian community, where he sought to balance firmness with a preference for quiet negotiation, earning him a reputation as a measured leader. Though the world in which he worked was fraught with danger, he believed in keeping the streets calm and the business of others from spilling into open conflict.
Away from that work he remained close to family and to the neighborhoods he called home, a man whose contributions to community life were as much about preserving peace as they were about his business dealings, and his memory rests now at Holy Cross Cemetery.
