Biography
Anna McNeill Whistler held a dignified presence that outlived the many moves of her family, and she became known to the world through her son's famous portrait, in which her calm poise exemplified a Victorian ideal of maternal strength.
Her support of James McNeill Whistler's artistic endeavours, along with her own resilience in the face of financial and social uncertainty, endeared her to friends in England and America alike, and she now rests in Hastings Cemetery.
