Anna Morgan

Biography

Anna Morgan, born in 1851, was one of the earliest advocates for serious dramatic education in Chicago. She taught generations of young actors and actresses, championed the study of Shakespeare and classical repertoire, and believed deeply that the arts had a place in public schools and community life.

She also opened doors for women in the theater world, insisting that they be taken seriously as artists, directors, and teachers. Anna’s influence was felt far beyond the stage; her students carried her values of discipline, empathy, and imaginative courage into their own careers and classrooms.
