Biography

Antônio Frederico de Castro Alves was a celebrated Brazilian writer and poet whose literary works left an indelible mark on Brazilian letters. Despite his tragically brief life, he produced significant contributions to Brazilian Romanticism and social consciousness.

Castro Alves's passionate writings addressed social issues and human dignity, establishing him as one of the most important literary figures of his generation. His untimely death in 1871 at just twenty-four years of age cut short a promising career. He was buried at Cemitério do Campo Santo, where his memory continues to be honored.
