Biography

Archduke Maximilian of Austria-Este (1782-1863) carried the responsibilities of an imperial statesman, guiding policy on behalf of the Habsburg dynasty and cultivating ties between court, church, and the provinces.

He devoted his later years to charitable and administrative work from his estate near Altmünster, where he passed away and was laid to rest with respect.
