Biography

Arthur C. Newby was an industrialist whose energy and innovation helped shape Indiana’s transportation and sporting life; he co-founded the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and supported the city’s burgeoning automobile industry. Newby combined his engineering knowledge with a flair for promotion to attract national attention to Indianapolis.

He also engaged in civic improvement, investing in parks and educational institutions while encouraging young entrepreneurs; his enthusiasm for progress mirrored the racing spirit he helped build. His memory remains part of the legacy of the Speedway and the community it energized.
