Biography

Atiye Sultan was an Ottoman princess of the imperial family during the mid-19th century, living during a period of significant modernization and reform within the Ottoman Empire. As a member of the royal household, she participated in the refined cultural and social life of the imperial court.

Her life reflected the traditions and privileges of Ottoman nobility during the Tanzimat period, a time of considerable change and Western influence in Ottoman society. She was laid to rest in Istanbul, the imperial capital and center of Ottoman cultural and political life.
