Biography

August Donath came into the world in 1845, a year before the country convulsed in Civil War, and he lived through the turn of the century with resilience. Though little is recorded about his profession, friends and neighbors recall a man who was dependable, thoughtful, and engaged in the rhythms of daily life in the capital region.

His final rest at Rock Creek Cemetery marks his long-standing connection to the area, where he is remembered for the solid character he displayed amid an ever-changing world.
