August T. Dorn

Biography

August T. Dorn spent his life quietly contributing to the well-being of Portland, bringing a steady hand to whatever work was needed. Born in 1849, he valued craftsmanship and the bonds formed at church and town meetings, always eager to lend encouragement to those facing hardship.

He took satisfaction in small victories—a well-tended garden, a neighbor's laughter—and inspired others by living with integrity rather than seeking acclaim. When he died in 1923 he was buried in Portland Cemetery, where the community still speaks of his humility and care.
