Austin Peay, Tennessee's governor from 1923 until his untimely passing, reshaped state government by consolidating agencies, promoting standardized education, and championing the building of better roads throughout rural counties.

His commitment to public schools, highways, and a more efficient Capitol system made Tennessee a model of progressive administration, and his legacy is remembered with gratitude at Greenwood Cemetery.
