Barney Ford (1822-1902) escaped slavery to become a pioneering entrepreneur in Colorado, building hotels, boarding houses, and a reputation for fair dealing that helped rewrite the possibilities for African American businesspeople in the West.

He used his success to support civil rights, inspire new generations, and now rests in Riverside Cemetery as a reminder of perseverance and generous spirit.
