Biography
Barney Hajiro earned the Medal of Honor for extraordinary bravery on Okinawa during World War II, single-handedly silencing enemy machine guns and rallying fellow soldiers despite heavy fire, acts that remain a stirring example of courage under pressure.
In the decades after the war, he became a cherished elder of the veteran community, quietly sharing lessons in humility and service while encouraging younger generations to honor their comrades at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
