Biography

Born in 1881, Beatrice Mary MacDonald answered the call for nurses during World War I, tending to the wounded with calm skill and a steady faith. She was lauded by fellow caregivers for her courage in the face of front-line dangers and the determination she showed while recovering from the injuries she suffered in the line of duty.

After the war, she remained a resolute advocate for veterans and their families, reminding future generations of the quiet strength required of the Army Nurse Corps. She spent her later years on Long Island and now rests at Long Island National Cemetery among so many she served.
