Biography

Ben W. Olcott, born in 1872, began his public career in Oregon as a lawyer and clerk before rising to become secretary of state, serving with an emphasis on integrity during the tumultuous years after World War I.

He assumed the governorship in 1919, guided the state through postwar adjustments, and continued to champion civic responsibility even after leaving office, with his remains at City View Cemetery.
